From Screen to Reality: These Last of Us Installations in Southeast Asia Will Blow Your Mind

Bringing the horror a little closer to reality.

Can’t Get Enough of ‘The Last of Us’? These Exhibits Around Southeast Asia Might Satisfy You.

By now, you’re probably well aware of how the post-apocalyptic drama series The Last of Us (TLOU) has become a smash hit globally, and you might even be thoroughly absorbed and captivated by the journey of Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) as they make their way through hordes of cordyceps-infected humans in the search of a cure to the viral pandemic.

But catching an episode once a week may just not be enough for some hardcore fans, which is why HBO GO has gone ahead and put up several TLOU installations in various spots across the Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand.

Here are the installation locations if you want to stop by and snap some shots for your socmed feed.

You can see how the cordyceps fungus has overtaken the Bonifacio Global City vicinity in Metro Manila, while a glow-in-the-dark billboard becomes extra prominent after sundown to feature a The Last of Us signboard in Boni-Serrano Avenue.

In the cities of Pasay and Pasig, wall graffiti messaging from the Fireflies are on show, reminding folks in the area that “when you’re lost in the darkness, look for the light”.

In a 47-meter-long pedestrian tunnel in Dukuh Atas, Jakarta, passersby could see the “remains” of a man who tragically succumbed to a painfully-slow cordyceps infection, while more of the same was spread across the walls of a tunnel in Terowong Kendal.

There was also Firefly messaging written on the city walls from January 5 to February 5, 2023.

Deep underground in the MRT station of Phahon Yothin, Bangkok, the exhibit takes the form of a ruined tunnel, with signs of the cordyceps fungus lining the walls and ceilings.

More signs of cordyceps growth can also be found along the walls and ceilings of the Sukhumvit tunnel, with another infected man also pinned against the walls.
