Welliver will be seen playing a sinister crime boss Dominic McNair in season 4 of the series, who is described as “a ruthless crime boss who imports and exports drugs and stolen luxury goods into and out of Los Angeles”

After a ten-year stint as Harry Bosch, Titus Welliver will be taking on a new challenge as he joins the dark side in AMC’s crime drama Dark Winds. A complete role-reversal from Bosch, Welliver will be seen playing a sinister crime boss Dominic McNair in season 4 of the series.

Welliver’s character is described as “a ruthless crime boss who imports and exports drugs and stolen luxury goods into and out of Los Angeles.” The season is already in production, and Welliver had took to X, sharing a behind-the-scenes still with the caption: “Dark Winds season 4, back on the chain…,” The photo has him in chained handcuffs in what appears to be a prison with other crew and cast members.

Set in the 1970s, Dark Winds follows Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon), a Navajo Tribal Police officer who investigates mysteries. The series also stars Kiowa Gordon and Jessica Matten. While the details of the fourth season still remain under wraps, showrunner John Wirth had told TV Insider after the Season 3 finale that the season will be based on Tony Hillerman’s novel, The Ghostway. “I’m not a Navajo, and I’m not an expert in all things Navajo, but my understanding is if you are with a person when they breathe their last breath, that breath goes into you and you become ghost sick, which requires a ceremony to cure you of ghost sickness,” he said.

The season’s story will be “about a 16-year-old Navajo girl who runs away from boarding school. One of the routine duties of Navajo tribal police is to find runaways and return them to school,” the showrunner said, adding: “So this girl runs away, and Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon), Chee (Kiowa Gordon), and Manuelito (Jessica Matten) go out to Los Angeles to investigate her disappearance. It is rather routine in the beginning, and then it develops into more of a deadly story for her and people around her.” However, how Welliver’s character will play into that is yet to be uncovered.

On the work front, Welliver will be seen in the upcoming Ricky, alongside Stephan James and Sheryl Lee Ralph, even though the film hasn’t announced its release date yet. He has also been cast for a main role in The Westies, a new period crime drama series in the works at MGM+. Welliver will also be making special appearances as Bosch in the spinoff series Ballard, which will continue to expand that world but with Maggie Q leading the cast as Detective Renee Ballard.

The premiere date of Season 4 of Dark Winds remains undisclosed.
