Phillip Schofield has revealed he was confused about his sexuality for a while and thought he might be bisexual before realising he was gay
Phillip Schofield has revealed he thought he might be bisexual when he was coming to terms with his sexuality.
The TV star, who came out as gay on Friday, has been married to wife Steph Lowe for nearly 27 years.
Despite always knowing deep down that he was gay, Phillip, 57, said his marriage was a happy one and he thought perhaps he was bisexual.
The couple have yet to comment on what will happen with regards to their marriage, but Phil has thanked Steph for her support during this time.
He told The Sun: “You never know what is going on in someone’s head when they you think they are leading the perfect life. And I was. But then it was there.

“I was confused by what it was. I thought maybe I was bisexual.
“But over time I realised and started coming to terms with it, and I realised I had to be honest with myself.”
Phillip has added he is not looking for love right now, and declined to comment on whether he’d had a sexual relationship with a man.
He also revealed he sought therapy and battled suicidal thoughts as he struggled to come to terms with being gay.

He tried to bury his feelings because he had a wife and two daughters, Molly and Ruby.
He said he would compare himself critically to other gay people, who appeared to have no confusion over their sexuality.
Phillip also insisted he was happy on his wedding day, despite knowing deep down he was gay.
He said he has been “naive” but would not be drawn on whether he had had a relationship with a man or whether he was in a relationship now, adding that he wanted to keep that private.

Meanwhile his wife Steph said “We have had to face the most emotionally painful time in our 27 years of marriage.”
Phil insisted he had been totally honest with Steph and she was his confidant, and had known for a while.
Phil said Steph was “amazing” and after their talk she gave him the space he needed.
He said: “I don’t know what it would have been like if I had a different person in my life.
“It has been a process, we started having discussions and it was gradual.
“There is no question she is a truly remarkable person – the kindest, sweetest soul I could have possibly met.”
“That is what makes this so hard. Knowing you are hurting the perfect person.
“But I still love Steph as much as when we first met. More probably.”
