Episodes 1 & 2 of The Last of Us Season 2 Made Big Changes — And Not Everyone’s Happy

Two episodes in and already there are scenes way different than from the game. As fans of the game, what are your opinions on these changes in the show.

1. Ellie and Dina’s patrol and dance happens on the same day.

In the game, Ellie’s dance with Dina and quarrel with Seth actually happened the night before she and Dina went on patrol.

2. Ellie’s first encounter with a Stalker.

In the show, Ellie comes face-to-face with a Stalker for the first time and gets bit. However, in the game, Ellie was already aware of a what a Stalker is.

3. Abby tells us what she wants.

In the very beginning of the show, Abby already reveals that she wants revenge for the death of the Fireflies. But in the game, Abby doesn’t reveal anything about herself when she first appeared. Only when she got her revenge we knew that she was a Firefly.

4. Ellie and Joel’s patrol partners are changed.

In the game, Ellie and Dina are the ones who find Eugene’s secret weed hideout, while Joel and Tommy are the ones who find Abby. In the show, however, Ellie is paired with Jesse and Joel is paired with Dina.

5. The attack on Jackson.

In the game, Jackson was never attacked by a swarm of Infected. It was actually Abby’s lodge that gets visited by the horde, and it wasn’t as chaotic as in the show. Abby and her friends handled the invading zombies with ease.

6. Abby’s friends reduced.

In the game, Abby had seven friends with her: Owen, Mel, Manny, Nora, Nick, Jordan and Leah. But in the show, they were reduced to just Owen, Mel, Manny and Nora. Manny also appears to have inherited Jordan’s characteristics from the game (getting cut in the face by Ellie).

7. Abby’s motivation revealed.

Abby once again spoils herself in the show. Abby reveals that the death of her father, the doctor Joel killed, was the reason she was out to get him. In the game, Abby never revealed her motivations. We only knew her intentions through flashbacks.

8. How Joel dies.

Joel in the show dies the same he did in the game but a little different. In the game, Abby bludgeons Joel’s head with a golf club as Ellie watches. However, it’s more graphic in the show. The golf club Abby wields breaks so she beats him with her fists before stabbing him in the neck with the broken golf club. Another difference from the game, Ellie crawls towards Joel and holds him. In the game, Ellie was knocked out after Joel was killed.
