Rap legend Eminem was left stunned when his daughter Hailie Jade Mathers revealed she was pregnant.

The 51-year-old was filming a music video for his new song ‘Temporary’ when Hailie, 28, surprised him with a jersey saying ‘grandpa’ and an ultrasound picture. Speaking on her ‘Just A Little Shady’ podcast, Hailie recalled: “He was like, ‘Are you trying to call me old?

“Why are you giving me this jersey that says grandpa?’ Then I hold up the ultrasound picture and he was like, ‘Oh my god. Wait, this is real? This is happening?'”. Hailie, who recently revealed she’s expecting a baby boy with husband Evan McClintock, also shared her own excitement about the pregnancy on the podcast.

She popped a balloon filled with blue confetti and exclaimed: “It’s a boy! We’re so excited, too. When we found out, Evan was like, ‘They’re going to hunt with me. They’re going to go golfing with me. I’ve got a little buddy. I was like, ‘Okay well they’re still going to Target with me.”

As Eminem prepares to become a grandfather for the first time, it’s reported that he’s “excited” about this new chapter and is looking forward to a quieter life. An insider told PEOPLE that he is being “very protective” of Hailie and she has become a “big focus” in his life, especially now that they live close by.

Adding further insight, the source said: “He’s excited about becoming a grandpa and supporting her. He’s always been very protective of her.” Eminem – born Marshall Bruce Mathers III – also has an adoptive family role with Alaina, aged 31, and Stevie, 22.

Hailie was able to keep her pregnancy a secret thanks to her friend Brittany Ednie offering some help. Speaking on the podcast, Brittany spoke openly: “I need to also defend myself now that this is public knowledge that you are pregnant because at said wedding, people did not know that she was pregnant.” Brittany confessed to covertly consuming all of Hailie’s drinks during the event to keep their circle of friends from guessing the truth.

She explained her side: “So she was, you know, grabbing a drink, not consuming the drink as a responsible parent does.” Brittany detailed their discreet tactic: “Whenever people were turned around, she would hand me her drink, and I would chug so it looked as if she was continuously drinking throughout that night.”

Hailie revealed that her friend had been heroically “taking one for the team” by doubling up on drinks, even though she never explicitly asked explaining: “I’ll defend myself, though, because I never really asked you to do it. It was like an unspoken thing with our eyes.” Hailie and her beau Evan first crossed paths in 2016, and after seven years together, he proposed. The lovebirds tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony in May. Eminem welcomed Hailie into the world back in December 1995 with then-wife Kim Scott.
