Animal lovers’ hearts have melted as a recently rescued dog shared his treat with his new cat sibling.
A woman who posts to Reddit under the username u/SnazzzyCat, fosters three kittens and recently became a “dog mom” to former shelter pup, Gordo.
Having rescued cross-breed Gordo just a month ago, he is settling in well — and has formed a particular bond with her foster kitten, Nutmeg.
“Gordo loves cats, and Nutmeg has the most fearless and I-do-what-I-want attitude,” Snazzzycat, who chose not to give her name, told Newsweek.
“He was approaching and loving the dog practically since day one.”
With Gordo now firmly a part of the family, she recently took him to be neutered — and as a special treat after his operation, bought him a meaty bone to chew on — which he promptly shared with Nutmeg.
“The pork bone I got has like a joint bone on the end that Gordo could take off easily,” she explained, “which he then proceeded to leave to the side for Nutmeg.”
She shared a photo to Reddit’s r/aww sub of the two animals side-by-side, Gordo lying on the floor gnawing on the bone, and Nutmeg delicately picking at hers close by.

Other snaps showed Gordo sitting in the back of a car, geared up to go for a walk, and long-haired tabby Nutmeg relaxing on a blanket.
She wrote: “Got my dog a pork bone. He broke off a [piece] and shared it with the cat,” and added in a comment that there were “extra cute photos included.”
And Reddit users loved it, with one calling Gordo “sweet, beautiful and just all around BEAUTIFUL.”
Another joked: “The cat stole it, and is actually letting the dog enjoy some. We all know Nutmeg is the queen bee.”
“Gordo is better than most people,” one wrote, as one user agreed: “It always blows my mind how emotionally intelligent dogs are. That’s why they are better than us!”

SnazzzyCat praised rescue organization Helping Paws Across Borders, which trapped and rescued the kittens, and holds low-cost clinics “where I was able to get Gordo neutered, vaccinated, and registered alongside the kittens.”
While dogs and cats are often shown to be rivals or even enemies, it is possible for the two species to get along or become friends, though it depends on the age the animals are introduced and each of their personalities.
After carefully introducing the animals, first by scent, then with carefully supervised face-to-face meetings, pet owners should then let the animals loose together, but with an escape route available for the cat, and the dog still wearing a leash if the excitement becomes too much, the Animal Humane Society recommends.
Owners should proceed with caution and continue to supervise interactions to ensure the dog and cat are getting along.
