The “Railroad Daddy” clarified comments he made in a recent interview with GQ.
Morgan Spector, who stars in the HBO hit drama The Gilded Age, reviewed some top-bottom confusion in his most recent interview with GQ.
During the conversation, he was asked about a comment he made during a Los Angeles Times Drama Talk roundtable last year, where he said, “I’m very much creatively a bottom. Tell me what to do and just let me obey.” His comment made the rounds on the gay side of social media, thanks to the culture connoisseur Evan Ross Katz, who posted about it on his Instagram account.
In his interview with GQ Hype, Spector was given the space to remind people that he is straight (he’s been married to Rebecca Hall since 2015) and explain what he meant by being a “bottom,” creatively. “I just made a joke, that’s really what it is!” he told the magazine. “I like being able to use my intuition and my intelligence to plug into somebody else’s ideas, learn their language, learn their way of communicating, figure out what the thing is that they’re trying to make, and then deliver that.”
The star, who is affectionately known as “Railroad Daddy,” thanks to his Gilded Age character being a railroad tycoon, went on to crack a joke and said, “I guess it’s more of being a service top, creatively, than being a bottom.”
The interviewer also brought up the accusations of queerbaiting that Spector faced after his original comments were made last year. Spector gracefully answered the question and asked, “Straight guys can’t bottom? I mean, people can play with dominance and submission in heterosexual relationships.”
He goes on to say, “We’re living in a moment now where we’re exploding ideas of gender. We deconstruct, these things are not fixed…. It’s theater, baby. We’re all playing in the same sandbox in a certain way.”
Katz posted his GQ interview comments on his Instagram and the gays are still thirsting over him. “These words coming from daddy made me feel stuff,” one person commented. Another person suggested that Carrie Coon’s character, who is married to Spector’s character, is “def a top.”
