Angelina Jolie has detailed her split from Brad Pitt in a new legal update on the ‘painful events’ that led to their 8-year divorce.
The actress, 50, filed for divorce from the actor, 61, in 2016, just days after an infamous incident aboard a private jet in which she accused Brad of being physically and verbally abusive toward her and her children while intoxicated, claims he has denied.
The former couple share six children: Maddox, 24; Pax, 21; Zahara, 20; Shiloh, 19; and 17-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.
Now, Angelina has detailed just how difficult her divorce from her ex-husband was in a newly filed court declaration.
On Monday, she filed new documents as part of their never-ending court battle brought by Brad over their home in France, Château Miraval.
In documents obtained by Daily Mail, Angelina wrote: ‘The events leading to my need to separate from my ex-husband were emotionally difficult for me and our children.

‘Upon filing for divorce, I left him control (and full residency) of our family homes in Los Angeles and at Miraval, without compensation, which I hoped would make him calmer in his dealings with me after a difficult and traumatic period.’
She continued: ‘To this day, the children and I have never again set foot on the property, given its connection to the painful events leading to the divorce.
‘Post-separation, I immediately began to look for a new house for me and our children, initially renting a home while looking for a more stable solution.
‘Because I wanted to ensure that Brad remained an important part of our children’s lives, I looked to buy a property near his home.
‘At the time, my savings were tied up in Miraval, and I had not asked Brad for alimony or any other financial support.’
The Daily Mail has contacted Brad’s representative for comment.
It comes after it was reported that Brad is requesting to see Angelina‘s private messages in a new legal filing.
On June 30, the F1 actor logged documents stating he’s struggled to acquire the actress’s communications, which he thinks could provide critical evidence in their ongoing clash over their French winery.

The two film stars have been locked in a bitter battle over the vineyard and home after the Tomb Raider star sold her $64million (£48M) stake to Yuri Shefler, the owner of SPI Group – the parent company to Stoli Group – in 2021.
Brad argues Angelina made the sale in spite of their prior deal that neither would sell their stake unless the other approved.
Paperwork obtained by the Daily Mail reveals his failed efforts to depose Stoli Group’s Alexey Oliynik.
He claims Oliynik has direct knowledge of the negotiations between Jolie and her team, and that the requested documentation aligns with ‘his core claims’ in the case.
The judge has yet to rule. The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for comment.
In his latest filing, the Hollywood fixture stated he wants Oliynik to submit messages regarding the sale of Angelina’s stake, including any with his ex-wife and her team.
Oliynik has argued that he is a resident of Switzerland and cannot be forced to get involved in the legal fight, which was filed in California.
Meanwhile, a source told UsWeekly: ‘This is another example of the defendant’s repeated opposition to sharing documents that would provide insight.’

Brad and Angelina entered into an acrimonious back-and-forth over NDA’s, which have become a key point in their fight, after the latter sold her stake in the winery.
In July 2024, Angelina asked Brad to ‘end the fighting’ and drop the lawsuit against her to allow their family to ‘heal.’
But sources told the Daily Mail that the Fight Club actor had ‘no intention’ of dropping it, alleging that Jolie only made the plea after realising that she does not have as strong a case as she previously thought.
‘Brad is not going to drop this lawsuit – why would he? This was a very standard business dispute but unfortunately, Angelina has consistently introduced personal elements that are meant for a divorce court,’ a person close to the situation shared.
Per legal documents obtained by People in February 2022, the Maleficent actress auctioned off her portion to Tenute del Mondo of the manufacturer Stoli Group.
In turn, Pitt claims that Jolie’s former investment company Nouvel owed his company Mondo Bongo the right of first refusal.
Following their breakup, Brad has a strained relationship with his and Angelina’s kids.
Several of them have dropped his last name from their monikers recently, with Zahara being the first.
Vivienne and Shiloh followed suit and the longtime leading man now has ‘virtually no contact’ with his adult children.
Elsewhere, Brad’s ex-wife Jennifer Aniston revealed she endured a 20-year secret battle to have a baby.
The Friends icon, 56, gave a rare interview to Harper’s Bazaar UK’s November issue, about the false narrative that she didn’t want to become a mother because she’s a ‘selfish workaholic’.
She said: ‘They didn’t know my story, or what I’d been going through over the past 20 years to try to pursue a family, because I don’t go out there and tell them my medical woes.

‘Of course, there are times when I feel that sense of justice – when something has been said that isn’t true and I need to right the wrong.
‘And then I think, do I really? My family knows my truth, my friends know my truth.’
Jennifer was married to Brad Pitt from 2000 to 2005. They split after he met actress Angelina Jolie on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
In 2022, Jennifer tragically revealed she had unsuccessfully tried IVF – and admitted she wished she had frozen her eggs years earlier.
‘It was a challenging road for me, the baby-making road,’ Jennifer said at the time.
‘My late 30s, 40s, I’d gone through really hard sh[*]t, and if it wasn’t for going through that, I would’ve never become who I was meant to be. I was trying to get pregnant.
‘All the years and years and years of speculation… It was really hard. I was going through IVF, drinking Chinese teas, you name it. I was throwing everything at it.
‘I would’ve given anything if someone had said to me, “Freeze your eggs. Do yourself a favor.” You just don’t think it. So here I am today. The ship has sailed. But I have zero regrets.’
Jennifer was aged 35 when she split from Brad and previously said the suggestion he left her because she wouldn’t give him a child was an ‘absolute lie’.
Brad went on to have has six children with Angelina.
