Bridgerton is bringing the gossip, drama, and romance back to the ton.
Netflix’s adaptation of Julia Quinn’s novel series Bridgerton has taken the world by storm. The period drama has captivated audiences since its release in 2020, including its spin-off Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. Season 4 was number one in 83 countries, and the blend of steamy romances, with orchestral covers of popular music, with exquisite fashion makes Bridgerton a marvel for many to watch.
Netflix has released a new teaser for season 5, revealing that Francesca Stirling (played by Hannah Dodd) and her budding relationship with her late husband’s cousin, Michaela (played by Masali Baduza), will be the talk of the season. It has been confirmed that season 5 is now in production, as it follows the developing feelings between Francesca and Michaela after the tragic death of John Stirling last season.
“The fifth season of Bridgerton spotlights introverted middle daughter Francesca (Dodd). Two years after losing her beloved husband John, Fran decides to reenter the marriage mart for practical reasons. But when John’s cousin Michaela (Baduza) returns to London to tend to the Kilmartin estate, Fran’s complicated feelings will have her questioning whether to stick to her pragmatic intentions or pursue her inner passions.”
The character descriptions for Francesca in season 5 will show her more as the countess of Kilmartin, who has been known to be reserved and contained. However, “Michaela stirs up new feelings inside her” during the new season, and she will “make discoveries about herself that could change everything.” In season 4, Michaela leaves after John’s wake despite Francesca expressing her joy about their newfound friendship.
“Beneath Michaela’s charming and vivacious exterior hides a vulnerable young woman who is quick to run the second she feels discomfort. But this season, Michaela must face her vulnerability head-on as she’s forced to navigate her relationship to her late cousin’s legacy — and to Francesca.”
Season 4 focused on Francesca’s brother Benedict as he attempted to hunt a mysterious Lady in Silver he met at a masquerade ball while also battling his feelings for a lady’s maid named Sophie Baek. Fan-favorite Eloise Bridgerton has also been a name on everyone’s lips due to her still not having her own season, with many suggesting season 5 could finally be her moment. However, season 6 appears to be when Eloise will finally get her love story shown.
Bridgerton is available to stream on Netflix, and at the time of writing, no release date for season 5 has been revealed.
