Now that Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 2 has finished filming, all eyes are on when it could premiere on STARZ. Personally, I’m still thinking 2027, but the filming wrap date does make a 2026 release date possible.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 2 wrapped filming on Thursday, Dec. 18, as we mentioned at claireandjamie.com. The announcement was made official on the social media channels, giving us a look at some behind-the-scenes snaps of the various characters. What it didn’t confirm was a release year, which isn’t all that surprising. After all, there’s still a lot of work to do with post-production.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 2 could premiere in 2026

With filming wrapping now, it is possible that the season could premiere in 2026. We’re looking toward the end of 2026, as it would take at least six to eight months to get through the post-production work. Look, this work takes so long because there is so much CGI to do in a period drama.

The team will be taking some time off now until after the New Year. Work will begin in earnest sometime in January 2026, which takes us through to the summer and fall. So, yes, it is possible for a 2026 premiere date.

Will that happen, though? I’m still on the fence, and I do think STARZ will want to push the release to early 2027.

STARZ will want one Outlander show per year

Despite Outlander season 8 potentially being ready for a later 2025 premiere date, I always said that was unlikely. Outlander: Blood of My Blood premiered in the summer, and there was no way that STARZ would bring two Outlander shows in one year.

I still stand by that statement. The only way it could happen in one year is if Blood of My Blood arrived at the very end of 2026. We’re talking November or December. That would allow for a long enough break between the final season of Outlander and the prequel series, and it would push some of the episodes into 2027.

It doesn’t make business sense for STARZ to release two of its most popular shows in one year. With the network’s success relying on subscriptions, it needs to space out the content, and that means an early 2027 release date. Again, though, with production wrapping already, it is plausible for a late 2026 premiere date to happen.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood is available to stream on STARZ.
