Could Sam Heughan and Caitríona Balfe return as Jamie and Claire Fraser in Outlander: Blood of My Blood? The idea remains unconfirmed, but several stars from the prequel already have some surprisingly emotional ideas for how such a crossover could happen.
Heughan and Balfe previously played Jamie and Claire throughout the original Outlander, which concluded its eight-season run in 2026. While both actors have indicated that they would be open to returning if the story genuinely called for it, they have also made clear that a cameo simply for the sake of seeing the characters again would not be enough.
That has not stopped the Blood of My Blood cast from imagining what a meaningful reunion could look like.
Jamie Roy, who plays Brian Fraser, immediately focused on the possibility of Jamie meeting his parents. Since Brian and Ellen’s story takes place decades before the events of the original series, Roy suggested an emotional encounter between an adult Jamie and the parents he never had the opportunity to know as an adult.
His idea would even involve a supernatural element, with Brian and Ellen appearing to Jamie in a way reminiscent of the “Force Ghosts” in Star Wars. For Roy, the appeal would be seeing Jamie finally encounter his parents after growing up without his mother, Ellen, who died in childbirth.
Harriet Slater, who plays Ellen, was equally interested in giving her character the chance to see the son she never got to know. She imagined Ellen meeting the grown Jamie and discovering the man he eventually becomes. Slater believes Ellen would be proud of her son, particularly of the life he builds with Claire.
She also sees an interesting connection between Ellen and Claire. According to Slater, Ellen could recognize aspects of herself in Claire, potentially making a meeting between the two women especially meaningful.
Meanwhile, Hermione Corfield and Jeremy Irvine, who play Claire’s parents Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp, suggested a different kind of crossover. Corfield imagined the characters briefly crossing paths without necessarily understanding the importance of their encounter. That approach could connect the two generations without requiring a major time-travel storyline.
One particularly intriguing suggestion involves Claire’s parents potentially encountering Jamie and Claire’s son while he is still a baby. Corfield acknowledged that the possibility would depend on how long Julia and Henry ultimately live within the show’s timeline.
Irvine, however, pointed out one of the complications. Claire would not necessarily know what her parents looked like, making a direct encounter between the generations much more complicated than it might initially seem.
For now, none of these ideas represents a confirmed storyline for Blood of My Blood. They remain creative possibilities from the actors themselves. But after the original Outlander came to an end, the prospect of bringing Jamie and Claire back into the world of their parents offers plenty of opportunities for an emotional connection between the two series.
Whether Starz ever chooses to make that crossover happen remains unknown. If it does, the Blood of My Blood cast has already offered several ways to make the return feel like more than a simple cameo.
