Russian speed skater Olga Graf celebrated her 2014 Olympic bronze by briefly unzipping her skin suit, which sparked attention, and later refused to compete under a neutral flag at the 2018 Games, ending her Olympic career with a European Championship medal.

A Winter Olympics icon suffered an eye-catching wardrobe malfunction after she got carried away with her celebrations.

Russian speedskater Olga Graf was an unexpected winner of a bronze medal at the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi and she produced an even more surprising celebration when she appeared to forget the limited nature of her attire.

Graf finished her event in four minutes and 3.47 seconds to claim a second Olympic medal. As she took in the acclaim from her home crowd, Graf unzipped her skin suit so she could breathe, but fans got plenty more back in response for their applause than they bargained for.

The then-32-year-old gave a rather chesty display after she skated around the ice and must have felt the chill as she quickly re-zipped her suit back up.

After being on the verge of a major slip, Graf said: “I totally forgot. We have very good suits and they are very tight.

“You just want to breathe and you want to take off your suit. Only afterward did I realize that maybe this video will appear on YouTube. But I don’t think it will be so bad.”

Graf rejected the chance to defend her medal in Pyeongchang four years later after she was selected as one of 169 Russian athletes chosen to compete as neutrals after the country was banned from the event over state-sponsored doping at the 2014 Games.

Her chance to participate was awarded after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recognised her as a clean athlete, but she refused to compete under a neutral flag after many of her fellow countryman and competitors were barred from competing.

“As an athlete and as a citizen, I was extremely negative about the decision of the IOC to admit Russia to the Olympic Games under a neutral flag,” Graf said.
