Jacob Elordi broke his silence on his character Nate Jacobs’ gruesome death in Euphoria Season 3.
On the Sunday, May 24 episode, Nate was buried alive as a punishment for not paying his debt to Naz (Jack Topalian) — after losing a toe (twice) and a finger. Naz then hunted down Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) to use Nate’s predicament to extort money from her. He gave her 72 hours to come up with $1 million.

Although Nate was buried at a construction site with an air hole, running out of oxygen was not his cause of death; instead, a rattlesnake slithered down the pipe and killed him with a venomous bite. Cassie and Maddy (Alexa Demie) were able to kill Naz with Alamo’s (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) help, only to find Nate’s long-dead body when they lifted up the coffin.
In a post-show recap, Elordi declared, “That’s a cool way to go,” while reflecting on his character’s fate and what it was like to film the death scene. “Nate is someone who has made so many mistakes and made, sort of, so many dark choices,” he explained. “It’s cool to see it all come to what it’s come to.”
Elordi recounted filming the scenes, sharing, “I had to go into this coffin. My shoulders were touching the side, and I couldn’t move my arms. And then they would drill the lid on, and it would get dark. It was really nice, actually. It was quite peaceful in there.”
Euphoria creator, director, and writer Sam Levinson pointed out, “The only thing worse than being trapped in a coffin underground is being trapped in a coffin with a rattlesnake.”

For the scene, they used a boa constrictor with a rattle attached to the end instead of a rattlesnake for safety reasons.
“He was super cute,” Elordi said of the serpent that was dropped on him in the coffin. “He was, like, real cuddly. So he kind of just saddled up next to me, and it was nice. But he was real sleepy. I had to kind of nudge him to get him to come up.”
Of Nate’s death on Euphoria, the actor admitted, “It’s a bittersweet thing. This show is a massive part of not just my career, but my life. It’s been amazing, and I’m so proud being a part of this.”
