Beyond the grave: the “dead” character who just walked back into the chaos!

Fans declare show ‘finally feels like Outlander’ after premiere backlash

Fans of Outlander have declared that the show is finally starting to return its former glory after season eight was marred by irate fans, who were disappointed by the Faith Fraser twist in the opening episode.

Many were left with a bitter taste in their mouth after season eight’s premiere painted a dark and tragic end for Jamie (played by Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser’s (Caitríona Balfe) long-lost daughter Faith.

However, it looks like things are finally picking up for Outlander, which this week aired its fifth episode from season eight titled Send for the Devil.

Many took to Reddit to praise the episode as one person posted on the forum: “This finally felt like an outlander episode to me! The knees are back!!”

A second posted: “It’s going to take me a while to digest that one! My hands are still shaking. But it was certainly well done.”

A third Redditor wrote: “My favorite episode of the season thus far! [sic].”

A fourth person admitted: “I cried several times, but not more than when I heard ‘je suis prest’ [sic],” and also included a crying eyes out emoji. Yet another fans added: “This episode was intense!”

Send for the Devil marked the halfway point in the episode in the 10-part season and the tension certainly ramped up with many twists and turns.

Captain Cunningham (Kieran Bew) was shot by Buck MacKenzie (Diarmaid Murtagh), before he could cause further harm to the Frasers.

Buck and Jamie took Captain Cunningham to be treated by Claire as they kept a watch over him for any further nefarious deeds.

Jamie was even seen sporting a kilt during the episode in a nice callback to the earlier seasons of Outlander.

Meanwhile, William Ransom (Charles Vandervaart) discovered that his cousin Benjamin Grey (Alex Bhat) was very much alive.

His return from the dead came not long after William had slept with Benjamin’s widow Amaranthus Cowden Grey (Carla Woodcock).

Roger MacKenzie (Richard Rankin) was forced to fight, leading many to fear for his life.

There was also a flashback to Roger with his father Jeremiah MacKenzie (Nicholas Ralph) in the Tube tunnel in London during a WWII air raid.

Audiences will have an agonising week’s wait for the next instalment, which will continue with the fallout from this pivotal episode.
