The second episode of Marshals Season 2, titled End Of Watch, uncovers deep thematic parallels between the burdens placed on children by their parents’ pasts, focusing heavily on disgraced former deputy Wayne Plummer and his son, Boone.

The investigation kicked off when the Marshals discovered that Wayne, dismissed from multiple law enforcement positions over the years, embarked on a violent revenge spree targeting former colleagues who cut him loose. After killing retired Butte P.D. captain Frank Winslow and active deputy Kyle Husted, the team realized Wayne’s murderous rampage was ultimately triggered four months earlier when director Harry Gifford rejected Boone’s application to the training academy because of his father’s tarnished record. During a tense confrontation at a memorial service for Husted, Wayne attempted to take out Gifford, leading to a shootout where Pete “Cal” Calvin and Belle Skinner were forced to neutralize Wayne, while Kayce Dutton and Andrea Cruz successfully convinced Boone to surrender.

Meanwhile, personal crises deepened across the team. Cal finally disclosed his severe lung cancer diagnosis to his fellow Marshals to ensure they were prepared for operational risks, though he continued keeping the diagnosis a secret from his estranged daughter, Maddie, using his position to leverage Miles Kittle into keeping quiet. Back at East Camp, Thomas Rainwater and Mo stepped in to help rebuild Kayce’s cabin and provide sanctuary for Tate, offering Kayce vital guidance on how to support his son as the teenager approaches his 18th birthday.
