Bridgerton Season 5 Announces New Cast: Meet Tega Alexander, Jacqueline Boatswain & Gemma Knight Jones
Bridgerton season five—which is set to center on Francesca Bridgerton and Michaela Sterling—has added Tega Alexander, Jacqueline Boatswain and Gemma Knight Jones to the cast in recurring guest roles.
Bridgerton is adding more faces to the ballroom.
Two weeks after it was announced that the upcoming fifth season will center on Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd) and Michaela Stirling (Masali Baduza), the hit Netflix show announced three new additions to the cast.
Tega Alexander, Jacqueline Boatswain and Gemma Knight Jones will be joining the show in recurring guest roles—and it’s clear their characters will be important ones.
Indeed, Tega—who is best known for his work in MobLand and The Sandman—will be playing Christopher Anderson on the series. And if his surname sounds familiar, that’s because he is the son of Lord Marcus Anderson (Daniel Francis) who was first introduced in season three.
“A Regency-era Casanova who could give the Bridgerton bachelors a run for their money,” a description of Christopher included in an April 8 press release reads. “Yet behind his cheeky facade lies a current of self-doubt that threatens to unravel him. The son of Lord Anderson will make his mark on society, one way or another…”
Jacqueline—who previously appeared in Carnival Row and The Diplomat—will be taking on the role of Helen Stirling, the mother of Michaela Stirling.
Described as the “very source” of Michaela’s spirit, Helen “seeks to guide—and occasionally push—her daughter through London’s social season,” per the show’s press release, “with equal measures of vivaciousness and tough love.”
As for MobLand alum Gemma, she will be portraying Lady Elizabeth Ashworth.
“Elizabeth is an old friend of Michaela’s who serves as her confidante and London guide,” a description for her character reads. “Beneath Elizabeth’s playful charm lies a grounded realist who is wise to the unspoken rules of society.”

Bridgerton season 5 adds new cast members as Francesca and Michaela’s groundbreaking love story takes center stage
Excitement is building around Bridgerton season 5 after three new cast members were officially announced — and their characters are set to play important roles in what may become one of the show’s most emotional and talked-about storylines yet. 💐
Actors Tega Alexander, Jacqueline Boatswain and Gemma Knight Jones will appear in recurring guest roles as the beloved Regency drama shifts focus toward the romance between Francesca Bridgerton and Michaela Stirling.
The announcement comes shortly after confirmation that season 5 will center on Francesca’s evolving relationship with Michaela following the death of her husband John Stirling — marking a bold new chapter for the series.
Tega Alexander joins as charismatic newcomer Christopher Anderson
Among the newly announced additions, Tega Alexander will play Christopher Anderson, the son of Lord Marcus Anderson, who was first introduced during season 3.
Christopher is described as a charming Regency-era heartthrob capable of rivaling even the most eligible bachelors in the Ton. However, behind his confident exterior lies a more vulnerable personality shaped by self-doubt — suggesting his storyline could bring unexpected emotional depth as the season unfolds.
His arrival also expands the influence of the Anderson family within London society, hinting at new alliances and tensions ahead.
Jacqueline Boatswain steps into the role of Michaela’s mother
Meanwhile, Jacqueline Boatswain will portray Helen Stirling, Michaela’s spirited mother and a key figure guiding her daughter through London’s demanding social season.
According to early character descriptions, Helen plays a central role in shaping Michaela’s outlook on life and love. With her blend of warmth and firm encouragement, she is expected to influence Michaela’s emotional journey as her relationship with Francesca develops.
Given how important family dynamics have always been to Bridgerton, Helen’s presence could prove especially significant as the romance deepens.
Gemma Knight Jones joins as Michaela’s trusted confidante
Completing the trio of new cast additions is Gemma Knight Jones, who will appear as Lady Elizabeth Ashworth — an old friend of Michaela’s and a trusted companion during her time in London society.
Elizabeth is described as both playful and perceptive, someone who understands the unspoken rules governing the Ton. Her role as confidante and guide suggests she may help Michaela navigate the challenges that come with balancing personal truth and social expectations.
Characters like Elizabeth often become emotional anchors within the Bridgerton world, making her one to watch closely next season.
Season 5 explores Francesca’s love story in new territory for Bridgerton
Season 5 draws inspiration from Julia Quinn’s novel When He Was Wicked and follows Francesca as she begins a powerful new romance with Michaela, the cousin of her late husband.
Showrunner Jess Brownell has already described the upcoming season as one driven by longing and emotional intensity.
According to her, the story will explore themes of yearning more deeply than any previous installment of the series — while also breaking new ground by placing a sapphic romance at the center of the narrative.
Although Bridgerton has previously explored a wide range of relationships across the Ton, dedicating an entire season to Francesca and Michaela’s journey marks a significant moment for the franchise.
Season 5 promises romance, emotion — and plenty of heat
Fans can also expect the trademark passion the show is known for.
Intimacy coordinator Lizzy Talbot recently hinted that the upcoming season may be one of the steamiest yet, joking on social media that viewers’ partners “might not be happy” after watching Francesca and Michaela’s storyline unfold. 🔥
While an official release date has not yet been confirmed, anticipation continues to grow as production moves forward — especially with filming for season 4 already introducing audiences to characters like Sophie Baek, Lady Araminta Gun, Rosamund Li and Posy Li.
With new faces joining the ballroom and a groundbreaking love story at its heart, season 5 is already shaping up to be one of Bridgerton’s most anticipated chapters yet. 💫
Season five—which is based on the sixth book in Julia Quinn‘s Bridgerton series, When He Was Wicked—will follow Francesca as she explores a blossoming romance with Michaela, the cousin of her late husband John Stirling (Victor Alli).
Showrunner Jess Brownell previously reflected on the monumental nature of their love story, telling Netflix’s Tudum in March, “More than ever, season five is going to be about yearning.”
“It feels groundbreaking,” Jess added. “Obviously, there are a lot of great shows that have depicted queer love. We’re not the first by any means. But to make an entire Bridgerton season about a sapphic relationship feels huge.”
The show’s intimacy coordinator Lizzy Talbot also gave a glimpse at what’s to come, teasing that the fifth season will get viewers’ hearts racing.
In a post on her Instagram Story on March 26 beside a photo of Hannah and Masali, Lizzy wrote, “Moment of silence for all the husbands whose wives will leave them after watching season 5.”
While fans will have to wait a bit until Bridgerton season five premieres, take a look back at some of the memorable moments from filming season four…

Hannah Dodd (who plays Francesca Bridgerton) joined Claudia in making some silly faces during a chilly day on set.
