A BBC presenter broke down in tears while announcing their ‘extremely difficult and emotional’ decision to quit their show – for an ‘opportunity of a lifetime’.

BBC Radio Oxford host Sophie Law announced her exit from the station, having worked there overall for 10 years.

Meanwhile, for the past three years, she had been fronting the station’s Breakfast programme.

She explained on the show: ‘I have to tell you today…’, before becoming emotional and saying, “Oh, I’m gonna go. I knew I was going to go”‘.

Sophie went on: ‘That at the end of this week, I’m going to leave this show.

‘And it’s for the best reasons, because I’m joining the presenting team at BBC South Today on the 18.30 weekday evening telly news.

‘So I’m going to be on BBC One across the south and I’m really thrilled about that, but I am so, so sad about leaving this show.

‘It is the opportunity of a lifetime and I know that if I turned it down, I would’ve spent the rest of my life and career wondering, what if?

‘So, I’m excited and I’m thrilled. But as you can tell, it’s also been an extremely difficult and emotional decision to leave this job.’

She added: ‘I know that you all keep listening, I hope that you all still invite me into your home albeit at the other end of the day.

‘And know, from my reaction there, how difficult it has been to make this decision.

‘But I’m so, so excited about what happens next. I’m just gonna miss you and this so, so much.

‘I almost got through that without crying, didn’t I Mandy?’

One fan wrote on Instagram: ‘Many Congratulations Sophie. Will miss you lots :-).’

Another penned: ‘Congrats, Sophie! We’ll definitely miss our daily journey from home to work with you.’

A third remarked: ‘Noooooo Sophie, going to miss you so much.’

A fourth commented: ‘Such exciting news Sophie – you will be amazing.’

While a fifth said: ‘Huge congratulations, but so gutted not to be waking up to you and the gang x.’

Earlier this year, emotional BBC Breakfast host Ben Boulos stunned viewers as he announced he was quitting the show live on air.

The TV star was close to tears during the episode which he presented with his co-star Luxmy Gopal.

Just minutes before the end of the show he said: ‘Just before we finish, just to share a bit of news about me.

‘It’s my last appearance on Breakfast for the time being, I am off to take a new job elsewhere.

‘But I will miss this place, I will miss this programme a lot. I have had the most wonderful time on Breakfast.

‘I just want to say thank you to the brilliant teams that we work with and above all thank you to everyone watching at home for letting me be a part of your mornings.

‘It has been a real pleasure and a privilege.’

He wrapped his speech up by saying: ‘Breakfast will be back tomorrow morning, Jon and Sally here from 6am.’

Luxmy then added: ‘But for now, from Ben for the final time, and from me – enjoy the rest of your day and have a lovely Sunday afternoon, whatever you are up to.

‘And goodbye Ben! Take care, goodbye.’

He began working on BBC Breakfast in 2022 and also fronts various other shows and segments with the channel.
