Good Morning Britain made its 2026 debut with a revamped studio at ITN headquarters, but viewers took to social media to criticise the smaller space in a series of new changes taking place
Susanna Reid, the presenter of ITV’s Good Morning Britain, has responded to viewers’ complaints about the breakfast show’s newly revamped studio being “cramped”.
The programme returned on Monday (January 5) for its first broadcast of 2026, debuting a completely overhauled look. The popular morning show has been extended by half an hour, while Lorraine has been cut by 30 minutes following a schedule reshuffle announced in May 2025.
As part of these changes, production has moved from ITV’s studios to ITN’s headquarters in Central London. Other daytime shows are now being filmed at The H Club in Covent Garden.
The new studio layout places Susanna and co-host Ed Balls much closer to their guests than before, including Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch.
However, Susanna seems unfazed by the tighter space and took to X to share news of the changes, expressing her excitement. “@gmb studio = big headlines! More than happy to be closer to our brilliant guests…,” she tweeted.
Her post came after viewers criticised the new look on X, with one remarking: “ITV cuts showing in the new set. So small, looks cheap and people sitting on top of each other.”
Another viewer remarked: “The problem with the smaller studio is when there are four people at the desk, everyone leans outwards when speaking to look directly at those around them. Unfortunately, in a single camera shot, it looks like we are constantly looking at human leaning towers.”
A third viewer offered their opinion: “It’s too small a table. Preferred the other one. You’re all on top of each other.”
Another weighed in with: “Sorry, but not a fan of the new set. It looks really small and cramped, and the London skyline behind where you sit looks like a very bad print. It used to look like a decent photograph.”
The final broadcast from the previous studio took place on New Year’s Eve, with presenters and crew becoming visibly moved as they said goodbye to their long-standing workplace. The relocation led to at least 220 redundancies as part of budget reduction initiatives.

Susanna Reid later posted on Instagram to mark the occasion, showing appreciation for colleagues who wouldn’t be joining them at the new location.
Posting several photographs, including a team shot of the entire crew before dismantling began, she wrote: “NEW YEAR’S EVE! A fabulous gathering of the BEST team in television @gmb and a farewell to those off to new adventures..

“I’ll be back in January in our new home. Goodbye to those leaving and a huge thank you to everyone who has made – and those who continue to make – GMB such a fantastic programme – and to Television Centre for being our home for the past few years.”
