From True Blood to Tarzan, Battleship to Big Little Lies, Alexander Skarsgård is one of Hollywood’s hottest actors, both metaphorically and physically. Currently he is showing us more than we might have bargained for as the abusive Perry Wright on David E. Kelley’s #BigLittleLies, standing “tall” against the likes of #NicoleKidman and #ReeseWitherspoon.
Clearly not afraid to flash some flesh, fans of #HBO’s dark #drama were shocked when they got an eyeful of #AlexanderSkarsgård in the show’s sixth episode. You may remember that he previously got the red stuff flowing with an all-too short full-frontal scene in True Blood, however, this time, Skarsgård forced his on-screen wife Celeste (Kidman) into the shoe closet — wang first.
As one fan said:
“Either Alexander Skarsgard has the biggest d**k on earth or they used a rubber hose of some sort on Big Little Lies tonight.”
The episode was aptly named “Burning Love” and you can check out the scene in full (frontal) glory above. Let us know what you think!
Nice to meat you.

“OUCH” comes the collective wince of men around the world, crossing our legs and quickly hiding any tennis rackets in sight. Although Urologist Dr. Robert Caleb Kovell has since confirmed that you can in fact NOT break your urethra, HBO’s show claimed that Perry’s game of trouser tennis broke it in two places. Ignoring the nitpicking behind the science, people were obviously questioning whether his substantial snake was the real deal or some sort of meaty mask.
Now I am no penis expert (JK, yes I am), but it looks a lot like his Johnson wasn’t quite what we thought it was. Surely, surely, the gods haven’t gifted him such a magnificent tool, and being a man, I can assure you, whacking your whacker with a tennis racket would hurt a hell of a lot more than that. Also, there is no way Kelley would want to damage one of his lead actors.
Real or fake, the scene got the internet hot under the collar, sparking the Big Meat Debate of ’17:

While it seems unlikely that Tarzan really was showing us his jungle vine, official sources are still yet to comment. Bear in mind that HBO is notorious for its nudity, while the likes of Westworld and Game of Thrones have both became veritable sausage fests. Until either showrunners or Alexander himself comment, I guess I will go back to staring at blurry stills from True Blood; it was the Season 6 finale “Radioactive” by the way, you’re welcome!
Alexander Skarsgård has had his fair share of controversial roles over the years, having recently played a leather biker dom in the gay BDSM romp Pillion, but there is one role in particular that was so controversial, or rather purely and simply despised, that the actor had to apologise to America.
Between 2017 and 2019, he played the role of Perry in the smash hit HBO series Big Little Lies, and not only did he star alongside the inimitable Nicole Kidman, but he also played her character’s abusive husband, so it’s safe to say that the huge numbers of people who tuned into the show absolutely loathed him.
“Yes, America, I’m sorry,” he told Remote Controlled, the Variety podcast, “I had no idea how hated I was.”
While it’s pretty down to earth to not overegg your own performance in something, surely he knew that a character that was an abuser and – spoiler alert – rapist would be despised by people watching the show, especially given the rise of the #MeToo movement at the time.
Clearly, they didn’t express their vitriol to Skarsgård, or at least not in a way that he’d notice, too much. Other actors of villains haven’t gotten off so lucky, like poor Jack Gleeson, who played Joffrey in Game of Thrones. You’d think raising your hand to the beloved Nicole Kidman would lead to much worse.
Really, though, instead of hating Skarsgård for his role as Perry, we should be thanking him, because after all, he brought a horrible character to life in a way that was believable and actually allowed for a realistic portrayal of the kinds of abuse women face.
And this is the reason the Pillion actor was so drawn to the character in the first place, “I was really intrigued by their relationship, and I thought it was an interesting opportunity to maybe try to play an abusive husband in a way that at least felt real,” he says, “Sometimes I feel like it can be a bit stereotypical and a bit cliché, and this was so rich and so layered.”
But, of course, it’s difficult not to hate a character like that, no matter how well they’re being portrayed by the talented actor playing them, and after all, it being so realistic is another reason so many probably disliked him.
It’s difficult to watch a show or movie about an abusive man when we know it’s not so far away from our reality, and that so many people watching the show have probably dealt with someone like Perry in their real lives. But that’s why it’s an important role to play – it brings awareness to the realities of abusive marriages for so many women and hopefully, makes those going through something similar feel less alone.
That’s why we need characters like Perry. It might be difficult to watch, but portraying the world in its most positive facet or in an idealised way isn’t always helpful. Sure, we should have films that demonstrate the way things can and should be, but it’s just as important to represent them as they are.
There is a time and a place for both realism and idealism, and that’s why America should be thanking Skarsgård for all the horrible little men he’s played.
