Becka has taken justice into her own hands.
In the penultimate episode of The Testaments season 1, which dropped Wednesday, May 20, Becka (Mattea Conforti) kills her father, Dr. Grove (Randal Edwards), after Daisy (Lucy Halliday) accused him of molesting her. Initially, Becka doubted Daisy’s story, but when Agnes (Chase Infiniti) revealed the dentist had assaulted her too, the truth set in for Becka.
“I think it’s so powerful. I really do,” Conforti, 19, tells PEOPLE of her character’s actions. “I think it shows Becka is a strong and powerful woman.”
Becka is “taking matters into her own hands” by seeking retribution for what her father did to her friends, Conforti says. “[She] is showing that she can rise above people telling her what to do and is going to serve justice when it’s meant to be served.”

Still, there is “a bit of an internal struggle” for Becka in the aftermath. “At the end of the day, it is her father and there’s a lot of punishment within Gilead. So there’s a lot of tiptoeing around what’s acceptable, what’s not, what is serving justice, and what’s the right thing to do here.”
“I think that Becka is, at the end of the day, just trying her best and is trying to find a world in which she’s doing the right thing, which I don’t think necessarily exists in Gilead.”
After killing her father, Becka fled her house dressed as a Martha and confessed everything to Agnes, who got her parents involved, thinking they would help Becka. Instead, Becka was taken — kicking and screaming — by the Eyes. “It just kept going and going,” Conforti says of Becka’s fate after the patricide. “She went through it.”
Her character arc overall came as a surprise to her. “I truly did not expect Becka’s character to go in the direction that she went.”
