My ‘boobs fell out’: Amanda Seyfried’s award show wardrobe malfunction
Amanda Seyfried shared a surprisingly candid and humorous story about a wardrobe mishap at the 2023 Critics Choice Awards—a moment that perfectly captures the unpredictable nature of live events in Hollywood 🎬✨.
At the ceremony, Seyfried was celebrating a major career milestone. She had just won Best Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie for her performance in The Dropout 🏆👏, a role that earned widespread critical acclaim. But while the night was meant to be all about achievement and recognition, it also came with an unexpected twist—her dress quite literally started falling apart.
She described wearing a vintage Dior Haute Couture gown, which, while stunning, turned out to be structurally unreliable. Even before the main incident, there were early signs of trouble. On the red carpet, she reportedly mentioned in interviews that the dress was already beginning to come undone. At the time, it may have sounded like a lighthearted comment—but it turned out to be a very real issue 😅👗.
As the evening progressed, the situation became harder to manage. During her acceptance speech, viewers could notice her subtly adjusting and holding the dress together. It added a layer of tension to what should have been a purely celebratory moment. Still, she handled it with composure, balancing gratitude for her award with the practical need to keep everything in place 🎤✨.
The most memorable part of the story, however, came later in the evening. Seyfried recalled a conversation with Glen Powell, known for his role in Top Gun: Maverick ✈️🔥. The two were chatting casually, joking around in a relaxed moment away from the spotlight. Then, in an instant, things went wrong.
As she lifted her arms during the conversation, the already fragile dress gave way completely. She later joked that her outfit had simply “given up.” Both she and Powell were caught off guard, reacting with surprise. According to her account, Powell immediately stepped in to help, acting quickly and respectfully to shield her from further exposure. Seyfried even added humor to the situation, joking that he “didn’t look”—or at least she hoped he didn’t 😂🙈.
What makes this story stand out is not the mishap itself, but how Seyfried chose to tell it. Rather than framing it as an embarrassing disaster, she turned it into a funny, human moment. Her willingness to laugh at the situation reflects a level of confidence and self-awareness that resonates with audiences. It also highlights an important truth about live events: no matter how glamorous they appear, they are still subject to unpredictability.
Wardrobe malfunctions, while often sensationalized, are not uncommon in the entertainment industry. Designers push creative boundaries, fabrics behave differently under pressure, and long events can test even the most carefully constructed outfits. In Seyfried’s case, the use of a vintage piece likely added both uniqueness and risk. Older garments, no matter how beautiful, aren’t always built to withstand the demands of a modern red carpet event.
Despite the incident, the focus of the night remained her achievement. Her performance in The Dropout showcased her range and depth as an actress, marking one of the strongest points in her career 🎭🌟. The award was a recognition of that effort, and no wardrobe issue could overshadow the significance of that moment.
There’s also something refreshing about how the story humanizes celebrities. Moments like these remind audiences that even the most polished public figures deal with awkward, unexpected situations. The difference lies in how they respond—and Seyfried’s response was a mix of professionalism and humor.
Her interaction with Glen Powell also adds a light, positive note to the story. It highlights a sense of camaraderie and mutual respect within the industry. Rather than turning the moment into something uncomfortable, it became a shared experience that she could later laugh about.
In the broader context of celebrity culture, stories like this often gain attention quickly, sometimes overshadowing more meaningful achievements. But in this case, the narrative feels balanced. Yes, the mishap is memorable—but so is the way Seyfried handled it, and more importantly, the reason she was at the event in the first place.
Ultimately, Amanda Seyfried’s experience at the Critics Choice Awards is a reminder that even in the most glamorous settings, things don’t always go according to plan 🎭✨. What matters is how those moments are navigated—and in this case, she did so with humor, grace, and a sense of perspective that made the story all the more memorable.

During an interview with People published over the weekend, Seyfried said her “boobs fell out of [her] dress” while chatting with the hunky actor, 36, during the ceremony — where she took home the award for best actress in a limited series or TV movie.
“I was wearing this amazing vintage dress. I made my stylist dress up in it before I went just for fun,” she recalled of the Dior Haute Couture gown.
“It was kind of sewn together and it started truly falling apart, literally falling off of me on the red carpet, and I think there were even interviews where I’m saying it’s breaking off,” she continued.

Seyfried, 39, was given the first award of the evening for her performance in The Dropout — and was noticeably fidgeting with her gown and trying to hold it together during her speech.
Later on in the night, the actress found herself in a one-on-one conversation with Powell, whose film “Top Gun: Maverick” was also nominated.
“I was talking to Glen Powell in the corner near my table, and we were joking around about something and I lifted my arms up, and my boobs were just out. My dress fell apart,” she shared.
Ever the gentleman, the Hit Man actor tried to help her out of the situation.
“We both screamed, and like the gentleman he is, he covered me. He didn’t look … I think,” she joked. “None of us were expecting that, but that dress had truly just given up.”

He screamed, she screamed, then the Top Gun hunk covered her like a gentleman… (or did he peek?). The dress “truly fell apart” – and so did the internet. One more laugh and her twins would’ve been autographing themselves. Glen didn’t look… she thinks. Sure, Amanda. 🥵🔥
