A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Is Coming: Why This GoT Spin-Off Could Hit Harder Than the Main Series

Everything We Know About The “Game Of Thrones” Spin-Off “A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms”

Another tale from Westeros is here (along with another Aegon).

Welcome back to Westeros! A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, yet another Game of Thrones spin-off, will premiere this weekend on HBO.

Two individuals in hooded cloaks have a conversation in a tented setting, capturing a medieval or fantasy vibe

The series will bring the story of Dunk and Egg to your TV screens. Although Game of Thrones fans will be familiar with the family names that dominate this story, there are all-new characters to acquaint themselves with.

A person holding a sword looks determined in a historical drama scene, standing outdoors in expansive countryside. Subtitles say, "To defend the weak."

Here’s everything we know about A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms so far:

1. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is based on a series of novellas by George R.R. Martin.

2. The series takes place 72 years after House of the Dragon and 100 years before Game of Thrones.

3. The official synopsis of the show introduces us to, “a young, naive but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”

Two characters in medieval cloaks walk with a horse through a stone gate in a rustic, historical setting, suggesting a fantasy storyline

4. Studious Game of Thrones fans will recall that Egg is the Night Watch Maester Aemon’s brother.

Elderly person with white hair in dark robe, sitting solemnly, exudes a serious expression in a dramatic, shadowed setting

5. Martin claims the series is a faithful adaptation of his books.

6. Martin also warned viewers that this series would have less action than Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon.

Two armored knights are in a dynamic sword fight amidst a foggy battlefield, with one knight in mid-air holding a shield

HBO

7. The cast is stacked, with Peter Claffey playing Ser Duncan and Dexter Sol Ansell playing Egg. Here is the full cast:

8. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will premiere on HBO and HBO Max on Jan. 18, 2026, and is a six-part series.

Actor in a rugged medieval costume, holding a shield, with a determined expression and battle-worn face, suggesting a scene from a period drama

HBO

9. Two trailers have been released for the series so far. The teaser trailer introduces us to Ser Duncan, who is burying his mentor and seeking to make a name for himself, and Egg, a curious young boy eager to become a squire.

10. The second, and final trailer, gives fans a little more to digest. It appears Ser Duncan has gotten off on the wrong foot with the Targaryens and must duel for his life. The tone of the show also seems a bit more lighthearted than the grim backdrop of previous Westeros-themed shows, although I’m sure it will have its share of gore and heartbreak.

11. This will be the first Game of Thrones series without any dragons.

A dragon breathes fire inside a large tent as a person holds it on a leash, evoking a fantasy scene

HBO

12. HBO head of drama Francesca Orsi says A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was much cheaper to produce than other Game of Thrones shows.

Person in detailed armor holds hand to face in a dramatic scene, suggesting a tense or contemplative moment from a TV show or movie
