Olympic hero Adam Peaty has shared a somewhat private topic with his adoring fans. The 27-year-old is currently competing in the Melbourne 2022 FINA World Short Course Swimming Championships.
On Thursdya, the Brit uploaded a photo to Instagram of him moments before competing, showing off his impressive physique while donning his black swim trunks as he fixed his red swim hat.
He captioned the photo: “It’s good to be back in the arena! In a much better place than I expected so I’m content with those performances so far. The climb continues and it won’t be easy.” Comments soon followed, including a rather forward one which read: “For optimal streamlining, do you tuck ‘it’ upwards or downwards? Asking for a friend.”
Peaty dived into his comments section and issued an interesting response to the curious Instagram user. “Depends what I feel on the day mate, even sidewards is an option sometimes,” the three-time Olympic gold medallist said.
Pleased with the answer to his question, the fan added: “Fair play. Sideways option only in the heats, surely. Final time is 100% hydro-position.” Peaty had set his sights on a world short course title following his return to swimming after a tough year in and out of the pool.
The 27-year-old has battled with injury but is now fully recovered after suffering a fractured foot. “I’m looking forward to having a challenge [in the pool] and I’m loving swimming again,” he said. However, he admitted feeling pure anger’ after only winning a bronze medal in the 100m breaststroke final.

He trailed winner Nic Fink and runner-up Nicolo Martinenghi in what was his first race since this summer’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. “I’m angry with bronze,” he fumed. “I don’t get bronze often, so it’s a bit of a weird one on the Wikipedia. It’s my first competition since the Olympics. The Commonwealths was just a trial really, after my foot (injury).
“I’m disappointed but I’m not going to allow myself to be. It is what it is. I am what I am. I’m looking forward to a long course season after this week and I’ve got to be uncomfortable.

“I’ve got to be challenged – if I’m going to challenge that world record. This is the fight I need and I just feel pure anger, which is when I feel very dangerous.”
Peaty’s medal is the first piece of silverware for Great Britain at the World Swimming Championships (25m), with the breaststroker going close to another bronze in the 4x50m mixed medley relay on day two of competition.
Joined by Medi Harris, Ben Proud and Anna Hopkin, the British team finished fourth in a time of 1:37.07, with disqualifications for Germany and the Netherlands bumping them up from sixth. Peaty will be in action again when he begins his quest for 50m glory on Saturday, while Proud looks to defend his 50m freestyle title.
