Recap: ‘The Gilded Age’ Season 3 finale shocks
It couldn’t possibly be the season finale of this series without some drama and that is exactly what the cast brought to the table. Carrie Coon’s Bertha Russell experienced some major highs as well as some major lows in the past couple of episodes, while her husband, George (Morgan Spector), seems conflicted about where he wants his life to go.
Of course, the ambitious Bertha has pulled off a major win as she destroyed the restrictions against divorced women attending balls and other events. While it was a success for the character, Bertha had to go through a few other major moments in the last episode.

George, who was shot by someone unknown in Episode 7, has recovered remarkably in the final episode, thanks to the assistance of Dr. William Kirkland (Jordan Donica) and the care of his wife. Of course, in an attempt to keep the shooting under wraps, the Russells decided to keep the police out of it, so the identity of the shooter remains unknown.
But despite being shot and being taken care of by Bertha, George seems to have bounced back and is unsure about the future of his relationship. As he questions whether he wants to work on things or leave their love behind, the strong-willed and determined Bertha is left lost. Coon spoke about where her character was left off and why the ending shook her character.
“It’s always interesting to explore the vulnerability of a character,” Coon says. “She’s usually so confident in her actions, but this season she really didn’t anticipate the consequences of what she’s done and she’s blindsided. It’s very rattling for her.”
Meanwhile, Bertha’s daughter, Gladys (Taissa Farmiga) dropped the major bombshell that she was expecting a child with the Duke of Buckingham, the man her mother married her off to for status. So, if one thing is for certain, it’s that Bertha has been on a rollercoaster of emotions.
HBO confirms Season 4 of ‘The Gilded Age’
After the explosive Season 3 finale, the question on most fans’ minds is whether there will be a fourth season. Luckily, there will be.
The fourth season was confirmed by HBO just a few days ago on July 28, so there will (hopefully) be confirmation on what happens between the Russells, as well as the other characters.
Season 3 has brought in more viewers than both Season 1 and Season 2. With the Season 3 premiere drawing in even more viewers than the other premieres, you will likely get to see more episodes of your favorite drama.
Although there is no information about a release date just yet, it will probably be in late 2026 or early 2027 based on the spacing between other seasons. The content of the fourth season is also under wraps, but that just makes for an even more exciting reveal when the time comes.
