The Outlander season 8 teaser trailer has left fans emotional as Jamie Fraser references his fate
Outlander enthusiasts have been overcome with emotion following Starz’s release of a fresh teaser for the eighth series of the beloved fantasy drama, coming shortly after behind-the-scenes glimpses, a first-look trailer, and the recent announcement that Scottish music icon Annie Lennox would be performing the opening title sequence, reports the Daily Record.
The Outlander teaser carries the tagline: “Nothing can prepare you for how it ends” and opens with Jamie Fraser (portrayed by Sam Heughan) reflecting in voiceover: “What is the unseen threads that bind us? Woven by a hand far greater than our own.”
The clip proceeds to showcase several devastating moments, including a shocking revelation where a tearful Jamie confides in his equally distressed wife Claire (Caitríona Balfe) regarding his destiny.
“I’ve been reading Frank’s book. He says war is coming to the backcountry and James Fraser dies in it,” Jamie reveals whilst holding Claire close. The pair are devastated by the realisation that altering the course of history may prove impossible, having previously been unable to do so.
Readers of the Outlander books may already suspect who could tragically end up in the casket.
This is further emphasised by scenes of a fire, with Brianna MacKenzie (Sophie Skelton) appearing alarmed and covering her mouth in horror at the flames. Once again, this appears to reference Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander novels.
Fans are also treated to a glimpse of Fergus Fraser (César Domboy) and Marsali (Lauren Lyle) sharing an embrace, following their notable absence from season seven. In another scene, Lord John Grey (David Berry) dons his hat with a solemn expression.
Despite the poignant moments, Claire offers a beacon of hope, stating: “Hold on, not just to a belief in something greater, but in us.”
This hopeful sentiment precedes a thrilling montage of scenes, including one where Brianna appears shocked as she looks at her hands. The teaser reaches its climax as Claire pleads with Jamie: “Don’t go.”
The trailer sparked a flurry of comments on Instagram, with Outlander star Romann Berrux, who played young Fergus Fraser, expressing: “Can’t believe this is the end.”
One fan shared: “I’m feeling sooo many emotions right now, I love outlander too much [sic].”
Another commented: “This story taught us that love can cross time survive war and defy everything. Now we stand at the end grateful and undone. No matter how it ends Outlander changed us forever. We were never just watching we were living it.”
A third fan observed: “This has been the most incredible journey! Diana Gabaldon is a genius author! This will be such an emotional end for all of us Outlander fans.”
Another individual simply posted a GIF of a man crying, while another lamented: “Why does it have to end?”
