Starz recently dropped a fresh teaser over the Christmas period with new footage from the last series
Outlander fans have been left emotional after Starz released a new teaser for season eight of the hit fantasy series, not long after sharing some behind-the-scenes insight and a trailer, as well as recently announcing that Scottish music legend Annie Lennox was performing the opening title credits.
The Outlander teaser features the longline: “Nothing can prepare you for how it ends” and starts with Jamie Fraser (played by Sam Heughan) remarking in voice over: “What is the unseen threads that bind us? Woven by a hand far greater than our own.”
The video goes on to depict some heartbreaking moments, including a bombshell in which a teary-eyed Jamie tells his equally emotional wife Claire (Caitríona Balfe) about his fate.
“I’ve been reading Frank’s book. He says war is coming to the backcountry and James Fraser dies in it,” Jamie says as he embraces Claire. The couple was heartbroken knowing that it might be impossible to change the course of history after previously failing to do so.
To make matters worse, the teaser also sees Jamie looking at a coffin. However, given its small size, it appears to be intended for someone else. Those familiar with the Outlander books may now have an idea about who might tragically be going in the casket.
This is compounded by a fire as Brianna MacKenzie (Sophie Skelton) looks startled and covers her mouth in shock at the blaze. Again, alluding to Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander novels.
Fans also see Fergus Fraser (César Domboy) and Marsali (Lauren Lyle) embracing after their big absence from season seven. Meanwhile, Lord John Grey (David Berry) puts on his hat and looks grave.
Despite the sad moments, Claire says: “Hold on, not just to a belief in something greater, but in us.” The moment offers hope, before a climactic montage of scenes, including one in which Brianna looks down at her hands in shock. The teaser comes to a dramatic close as Claire tells Jamie: “Don’t go.”
Fans rushed to the comments section on Instagram to share their thoughts on the trailer, with Outlander star Romann Berrux, who portrayed young Fergus Fraser, posting: “Can’t believe this is the end.”
Meanwhile, one fan wrote: “I’m feeling sooo many emotions right now, I love outlander too much [sic].” A second said: “This story taught us that love can cross time survive war and defy everything. Now we stand at the end grateful and undone. No matter how it ends Outlander changed us forever. We were never just watching we were living it.”
A third noted: “This has been the most incredible journey! Diana Gabaldon is a genius author! This will be such an emotional end for all of us Outlander fans.”
Another person simply posted a GIF of a sobbing man as someone else commented: “Why does it have to end?”
Outlander season 8 will air on Starz and MGM+ via Prime Video on March 6, 2026
