Outlander: Blood of My Blood’s Davina Proves Everyone Deserves a Second Chance

I’m a firm believer in people being given second chances.

When Davina was first introduced in Outlander: Blood of My Blood, it was hard to tell which side she would be on. At first, she seemed to look out for Julia, and then things took a turn when Julia slept with Simon Fraser and convinced him that her unborn child was his.

Things reached boiling point as Julia went into labor. Davina managed to turn the women on Julia, getting her to confess that Simon wasn’t the father. Julia didn’t break despite everything happening around her, but it wasn’t that that made Davina see the error of her ways. It was the reminder that mothers will do whatever they can to protect their children.

That was the turning point. Davina kicked the women out and helped Julia. Of course, while Julia was willing to accept her help, plenty of Outlander: Blood of My Blood viewers had it out for her.

Davina makes the most of her second chance in Outlander: Blood of My Blood

I’m a firm believer that people deserve a second chance. If they really want to prove they can change, then they need to be given that opportunity. And this isn’t an opportunity with constant reminders that they’ve done bad. While the past can’t be forgotten, it’s also important to move forward from it.

Now, if someone ends up going back to old ways, then they’ve proven they can’t change. And if they’re constantly reminded of what they did or people expect them to do the same thing again, then why are they going to make an effort to change.

Julia did the right thing with Davina in Outlander: Blood of My Blood. When Julia realized that Davina wanted to do right by her, she allowed it. And then the two started working together. It was clear that Davina wanted to be a better person, and at one point, it led to the two mothers caring for each other’s children, knowing that they had to trust one another.

In this arc, we see why it’s important to give people a second chance. Some may say that Davina didn’t make up for what she did, but Julia never asked for that. And it’s not what everyone would want. It’s not like Davina even had a situation where she could make up for it. She did, however, protect Julia’s secrets and help her escape with Henry when the time came.

Julia continued to protect Davina as much as she could

The relationship between them morphed into a friendship, as we’ve delved into at claireandjamie.com before. They were there for each other in times of need, whether it was some emotional support when Julia worried about the baptism or physical help in getting ingredients into the kitchen to put in Simon’s food.

By the end, Julia knew that her escape would be blamed on Davina, and she didn’t want that. The fact that Davina wasn’t even thinking of herself to get Julia out makes it clear that she had changed. In fact, I’d say that this was the point Davina made up for the bad she did, if you really want to look at it from that point of view.

Julia made sure that Davina wouldn’t be blamed for her escape, getting Davina to set up a way for Balloch to chase after her. While she couldn’t be there to make sure Brian could protect Davina, she could do that. The two had each other’s backs, and it wouldn’t have been possible if Davina wasn’t given a chance to change.
