Sometime soon — maybe by the end of the year, maybe early in 2025 — Starz will air the eighth and final season of Outlander, bringing an end to the beloved time-traveling romance series. Outlander has been going strong for a long time, and fans will no doubt find it hard to say goodbye. Sam Heughan, who plays 18th century heartthrob Jamie Fraser, is pouring gasoline on the fire by posting a video where he walks out of his final-ever ADR session for the show.
ADR stands for Automated Dialogue Replacement, where actors rerecord select lines to be dubbed over in the final version. This is the last-ever thing he will do on Outlander, and he’s emotional about it:
“Well, that’s it,” Heughan said. “The last ADR on Outlander completed on the Universal lot. The studio’s behind me, but yeah, I’m very emotional. I’m very excited for the fans to see the final episode. It’s gonna be quite — QUITE — an emotional one, but I know you’re gonna love it. Thank you, Jamie.”
Outlander makes a specialty of emotional episodes, especially when it comes to the central duo of Jamie and his wife Claire (Caitriona Balfe). It’s not hard to believe that the series finale, whenever it comes, will have fans all the way up in their feelings.

Speaking of Balfe, she waxed nostalgic about how much she’d learned playing Claire Fraser on Outlander lo this last decade and change. “I learnt everything on that show,” she said at the Irish Film & Television Academy Awards, per The Irish Star. “My resumé before I got that show, and 11 years later, I feel like it’s just stretched me in just so many different ways.” She praised the show for allowing her to do many different things, from romance to action to drama to comedy.
And now it’s all coming to an end, albeit not for a minute. First, Starz is prepping an Outlander prequel series called Blood of My Blood, which will explore how Jamie’s parents and Claire’s parents met and fell in love. That show is coming out this summer. As for Outlander season 8, we’ll keep an eye out.
