Marvel is shaking up its main Earth-616 Universe as it makes the audacious decision to kill off many of the Avengers’ main staple heroes that fans know and love with a cataclysmic crossover event known as the “Age of Revelation.” In the wake of this new status quo, an all-new Avengers team and leader have risen from this new dystopia.

The cover for X-Vengers #2, by Jason Loo and Sergio Dávila, reveals that heroes such as Scarlet Witch, Hank Pym, and Captain America have all died, with Dani Moonstar taking up the mantle as Captain America and becoming the leader of the Avengers.

Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe #1 Cover Page of heroes screaming in horror

With the oncoming Age of Revelation and the rise of Apocalypse’s heir, the Avengers have taken a massive hit, and how they fell was revealed in X-Men: Age of Revelation #0. Not only has Revelation rallied his forces of omega-level mutants and former heroes, but the new X-Virus is turning humans into mutants or killing them.

The Avengers’ roster of heroes has been drastically altered by this new grim reality, with the team losing major leaders like Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson. Even more unfortunately, other heroes, such as Spider-Man, Moon Knight, and Mantis, are also among the fallen heroes. As more heroes fall, the former hero Cypher shows just how big a threat he is.

While many of the heroes have been lost to this new era, there are still heroes such as Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Shang-Chi, who have all received mutant upgrades and abilities, most likely due to the impending X-Virus. And with this newly assembled mutant team, Dani Moostar has become the Avengers’ new leader.

The Avengers Take on a New Leader and New Powers

Though Earth’s Mightiest Heroes have undertaken a catastrophic loss, they have also gained a great deal of power, with many of their members gaining new abilities and Dani Moonstar now donning the Captain America shield. Moonstar’s impeccable leadership skills and status as a mutant superhero make Dani the ideal successor to take up Captain America’s role as the Avengers’ leader.

The Avengers may have rebuilt themselves with new mutant upgrades and a formidable leader, but the fallen heroes have shown that no superhero is safe in the Age of Revelation. Marvel’s new team is a historic shift in the Avengers’ status quo as Revelation kicks off his reign over the future with a superhero massacre that will forever change Marvel.

X-Vengers #2 will be available November 26, 2025, from Marvel Comics!
